Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment

The Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) is a widely used standardized behavioral assessment system used in mental health, medical, and educational settings.

ASEBA compares a client’s responses to large normative population samples, producing standardized scores that indicate whether concerns fall within typical ranges or are clinically elevated compared to peers.

Reports include:

• standardized scores and percentiles

• DSM-oriented scales

• visual behavioral profile charts

• clinical vs normal range indicators

• summaries of critical items

These results provide objective behavioral data that supports clinical decision-making.

Standardized Behavioral Assessment Support

Clinical Resource Group offers administration and scoring of ASEBA standardized behavioral assessments to help therapists obtain objective, norm-referenced behavioral data that supports diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.

ASEBA reports provide structured behavioral profiles and clinical scale scores that complement a therapist’s clinical impressions and can help clarify patterns related to emotional, behavioral, and attention concerns.

Available Assessments

ASEBA assessments can be administered across the lifespan.

Children & Adolescents

• Youth Self-Report (YSR)

• Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)

• Teacher Report Form (TRF)

These allow therapists to gather information from multiple informants, helping identify patterns across home, school, and self-report perspectives.

Adults

• Adult Self-Report (ASR)

• Adult Behavior Checklist (ABCL)

These measures assess emotional functioning, attention concerns, internalizing symptoms, interpersonal functioning, and behavioral patterns in adult clients.

When Therapists Often Use ASEBA

Standardized behavioral assessment can be particularly helpful when:

• diagnostic direction is unclear

• ADHD, mood, or anxiety concerns overlap

• parents and youth report different concerns

• objective behavioral data would support treatment planning

• clinicians want norm-referenced measures to complement clinical impressions

How the Process Works

  1. Therapist refers a client who may benefit from standardized behavioral assessment.

  2. ASEBA forms are sent directly to the client and/or relevant informants (parent, youth, teacher).

  3. ASEBA software generates a full scoring report including narrative interpretation and visual behavioral profiles.

  4. The completed report is returned to the referring therapist within 24–48 hours after all forms are received.

Cost

ASEBA Administration & Scoring

$100 per assessment

Includes:

• form administration

• automated scoring

• narrative report

• visual behavioral profile charts

**Therapists may pass this cost directly to the client if desired.

Optional Clinical Consultation

30–45 Minute Consultation

$75

For therapists who would like additional support reviewing the results, a consultation call is available to discuss:

• interpretation of the ASEBA profile

• diagnostic considerations

• treatment planning implications
